AbstractThis study seeks to find out the correlation between emotional intelligence and career adaptability of Padang city civil servants. Resources that people manage are the most important assets an organization can have since they manage, nurture, and sustain the organization as per the needs of society and time. The study acknowledged the dependence of human resources to the organization, that the business need able workers and workers want good places to work. The study was conducted using a total sampling method which included 235 civil servants of Padang City. This study used two instruments; the first one was an emotional intelligence scale with validitiy coefficients from 0.320 to 0.705 and a reliability coefficient of 0.912. The second instrument was a career adaptability scale with validity coefficients that ranged from 0.399 to 0.797 and a reliability coefficient of 0.962. Validity and reliability of the instruments were tested using Cronbach's alpha technique. In this analysis, the emotions correlate in which the value of correlation is 0.572 at significance level 0.01, proves the hypothesis which states the relationship of emotional intelligence and career adaptive skill is highly significant to the civil servant population. Emotional intelligence makes 33% contribution to career adaptability indicating that emotional intelligence accounts for one third of the value
